October is all about apple picking and cozy cups of cider by the bonfire. This is peak harvest season for most full-season crops, and there are plenty of options when it comes to autumn canning recipes!
You can get an early jump on root crops like Carrots, beets, parsnips, and onions, or you can let those slide a few more months to keep right in the garden.
Apples and winter squash, similarly, will keep in a cool place for a few weeks until you can get to them, but there’s no time like the present to get it all in a jar so that it’s not spoiling on the counter. And, it’s always a good idea to get everything put up before the busy holiday season.
What won’t wait though, is the end-of-season garden produce. The last of the tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans and just about everything else that’s highly perishable and had to come out of the garden before the first frost.
Prioritize those recipes, and then return to your cozy autumn staples at the end of the month.
