Summer Berry Canning Recipes | Creative Canning
Preserve your berry harvest with these easy canning recipes
Berry season comes on fast, and if you don’t keep up, you’ll find yourself buried in baskets. Whether you're growing them yourself, picking wild, or buying by the flat at the farmers market, berries are one of the most rewarding fruits to preserve—and one of the easiest to lose if you don’t act quickly.
Fortunately, berries are perfect for canning. You can make jam, jelly, syrup, pie filling, juice, or just can them whole in syrup. Some are high in natural pectin, others need a little help, but they all preserve beautifully with just a few ingredients and a water bath canner.
Berry Jam & Jelly Recipes
Berry jam is where many home canners get their start. These recipes range from simple, no-pectin versions to blends that highlight seasonal pairings and specialty berries you won’t find in stores.
Old-Fashioned Strawberry Jam (No Added Pectin) – Simple, classic, and foolproof.
Blackberry Jam (No Added Pectin) – Rich and deeply flavored, with just three ingredients.
Blueberry Jam (Without Added Pectin) – A soft-set spread that keeps the full flavor of fresh blueberries.
Black Raspberry Jelly (Seedless) – Deep, rich flavor with a smooth finish.
Classic Raspberry Jam (Without Added Pectin) – Bright and tangy, perfect for beginners.
Blueberry Rhubarb Jam – A sweet-tart combination that balances beautifully.
Haskap Jam – Made with honeyberries, this one is bold, fruity, and uniquely northern.
Saskatoon Jam (Serviceberry) – A wild-foraged favorite with a flavor like almond and blueberry.
Thimbleberry Jam – Fragile and highly seasonal, this one is worth every minute.
Berry Pie Fillings
Pie filling is one of the best ways to preserve the bulk of a berry harvest. These recipes are fully thickened and ready to bake—just pour them into a crust and go.
Canning Whole Berries, Syrup & Juice
Not every berry needs to be turned into jam. Canning whole berries in syrup lets you preserve their shape and texture, while syrups and juices give you endless versatility for drinks, sauces, and baking.
Canning Whole Berries (Almost Any Type) – A flexible method for freezing or water bath canning.
Canning Berry Juice – Works for mixed or single varieties.
If your berry patch is overflowing or you scored a deal at the farmstand, these recipes will help you make the most of every pint.
And if there’s a berry you’re hoping to preserve but don’t see listed here, just leave me a note in the comments and I’ll help you find a tested recipe for it.
Happy Canning!

Hi, what kind of jars did you use for the Strawberry Syrup? I'm not familiar with the ones in the photo. TIA.
