Our local food coops (basically health food stores) allow you to special order in just about anything. People often bulk order in things like 50 pound sacks of flour, beans, etc. The type of stuff that people buy in bulk from places like Asure Standard in other parts of the country. But they're also happy to do produce by the case for a discount. It's prepaid, so it's a win for them, and they give it to me for 10% above their bulk wholesale cost, so it's a substantial discount from retail.
My local community in upstate NY has an Indian Supermarket that has the most amazing produce even this time of year - I have no idea from where or how but it’s definitely the place for me to get mine!
I live in a desert area where almost all of my neighbors have citrus trees that are totally under-utilized. i'm going to dry and preserve some of the hundreds of lemons I have available to me for free. Thank you so much for this because I hate waste and free is my favorite F word!
Ashley, I use Paprika for storing recipes and I swear, every time you list recipes like this I lose an hour of my life sucking them into my app so I can find them again. Thank you!!
Wow! I'd never heard of Paprika, but I just looked it up and that's exactly what I've been looking for to keep my meal plans in order. I'm so glad you mentioned it! Now I'm going to spend a boat load of time on that app too...so I'll be right there with you.
Wonderful! I’ve used it for years and it is worth every penny to have the full functionality. Being able to save, tag and organize and export recipes, find them, generate menus and shopping lists, search for new recipes right in Paprika, it’s dreamy. The best advice I can give is to spend the upfront time organizing your tags, and never skip the step of tagging as you add and import, it adds an important filter when you accumulate 15,329 recipes, in addition to name and ingredient searches.
Have fun and when you think “I’ll add one more recipe” at 3 in the morning I will be there with you, too 😆
Where are you getting your citrus?

I made a recipe for clementine jam and it was delightful! It brought the sunshine into my kitchen. 🌞
Wow! You go girl. I’m lucky enough to get my citrus (some of it ) from my yard. The rest from farmers markets.
